What is OpenClaw?

Your Always-On AI Agent

OpenClaw is an open-source Agentic AI that runs on your hardware. Unlike a standard chatbot, it can proactively manage your computer — browsing the web, managing calendars, organising files, and even sending messages on your behalf via your favourite chat apps.

Runs on Your Hardware

Unlike cloud chatbots, OpenClaw runs as a persistent daemon on your Mac Mini or VPS — always on, always yours.

Chat-Native Interface

Send instructions via WhatsApp, Telegram, or Discord — text or voice. Your agent reports back directly in your chat.

Proactive Agent

Not just reactive — it can monitor your emails, track market releases, and brief you with summaries while you sleep.

Fully Customisable

Connect your tools, configure workflows, and set permissions. It adapts to how you work — not the other way around.

What can it do for professionals?

Legal & Corporate

Researching case law, drafting contracts from your templates, and summarising long documents automatically.

Investment & Finance

Monitoring US market releases while you sleep, browsing investment reports, and providing a summarised briefing when you wake up.

Daily Admin

Managing your schedule, booking appointments, sending follow-ups, and syncing notes across your devices.

Why SetupClaw?

We Handle the Hard Parts

OpenClaw is the viral AI agent that actually does things. We make sure it works for you.

Privacy First

Your data stays on your device (or your cloud). You choose where it lives and who can access it.

No Code Required

We handle the technical "plumbing" — Terminal commands, Docker, APIs, configurations. You don't touch a line of code.

Ready to Work

We don't just install it — we make sure it works for you. Your agent is tested and live on day one.

OpenClaw is open-source — but the setup isn't trivial.

You could do it yourself, but most people hit these roadblocks and waste hours before getting it right — the biggest headache of self-hosting any AI agent.

Hours of Setup

Even experienced engineers spend several hours getting everything wired up.

Custom Integrations

OAuth tokens, messaging apps, custom workflows — getting these right is tricky.

Ongoing Maintenance

Updates, drift, broken workflows, security patches. Someone has to keep things running.

Security Gaps

Thousands of OpenClaw setups are accidentally exposed to the internet. Hardening is critical.

How It Works

From Kickoff to Go-Live in One Day

A clear 6-step process — we handle the technical plumbing so you can focus on what matters.

01

Kickoff

We define your goals and map out your systems — Google, Microsoft, Slack, and everything else you use daily.

02

Implementation

We install the core engine, connect integrations, and build your first workflows — all handled for you.

03

Go-Live

You start using your AI agent the same day. It's ready to manage emails, calendar, and apps on your behalf.

04

Hypercare

7 days of priority fast fixes and tuning via a dedicated WhatsApp chat. We make sure everything runs smoothly.

05

Managed Care

We transition to ongoing monitoring, updates, and improvements — so your agent keeps getting better.

06

Bring Your Own Key

You retain full privacy. Choose to run local LLMs or bring your own API keys (OpenAI / Anthropic / GLM / Kimi).

Security First

Deployed Securely From Day One

We follow the official OpenClaw hardening guide and then go further. Your data stays on your device — and your agent only gets the permissions it needs.

BYOK Credential Isolation

Your credentials are stored locally on your device and never transmitted to third parties. Access is sandboxed through restricted environment variables with strict file-system permissions.

Environment Isolation

Your agent runs in an isolated environment — Docker, macOS VM, or a dedicated bare-metal machine. Even if something goes wrong, it can't affect your primary system.

Firewall Hardening

No inbound traffic by default. We configure strict firewall rules so no one can hack into your agent from the outside.

Exec Allowlists

Only explicitly permitted commands can be executed. We start minimal and expand access gradually as you build trust with your agent.

Read-Only by Default

Your agent starts with read-only permissions on sensitive resources. Write access is granted per-resource, per-workflow, on your approval.

Dedicated Device Airgap

We recommend a separate device (Mac Mini or VPS) so the agent operates independently from your company laptop — a security airgap for your data.

What's Included

Everything You Need to Go Live

From hardware provisioning to security hardening to custom workflows — we handle the full stack so you go live the same day.

Hardware Setup

We configure your Mac or provision a cloud server — ready for 24/7 operation with minimal power draw.

Security Hardening

Environment isolation, firewall rules, exec allowlists, and read-only permissions — following and exceeding the official hardening guide.

Email & Calendar Integration

Connect your email and calendar so your agent can manage appointments, send follow-ups, and keep you on schedule.

Up to 3 Custom Workflows

We configure up to three bespoke workflows — email monitoring, market briefings, document processing, or whatever you need.

Documentation & Handoff

Complete documentation of your setup, credentials management, and a walkthrough so you understand your system.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about OpenClaw and our setup service.

General & Capabilities

What exactly is OpenClaw?
OpenClaw is an open-source "Agentic AI" that runs on your hardware. Unlike a standard chatbot, it can proactively manage your computer — browsing the web, managing calendars, organising files, and even sending messages on your behalf via your favourite chat apps.
What can it do for my professional work?
Legal/Corporate: Researching case law, drafting contracts from your templates, and summarising long documents.

Investment/Finance: Monitoring US market releases while you sleep, browsing investment reports, and providing a summarised briefing when you wake up.

Daily Admin: Managing your schedule, booking appointments, and syncing notes across your devices.

Hardware & Setup

Why do you recommend a Mac Mini?
The Mac Mini (specifically Apple Silicon models like M1, M2, or M4) is the gold standard for OpenClaw because it is whisper-silent and extremely power-efficient. Since the agent needs to stay on 24/7 to be your personal assistant, a Mac Mini only draws about 5–7W at idle — costing only a few dollars a month in electricity.
Can I use my old Macintosh?
Technically, yes, if it is a relatively recent model. However, older Intel Macs consume significantly more power, generate more heat/fan noise, and cannot run "Local LLMs" efficiently. If you want a 24/7 assistant, the upgrade to a Mac Mini is usually worth it for the silence and energy savings alone.
Do I need a dedicated device?
For security and reliability, yes. We recommend a separate desktop (like a Mac Mini) so the agent can stay online without interfering with your primary work laptop. It also creates a "security airgap" between your personal AI and your company's sensitive data.
Can I use a local LLM?
Yes, but aim high. OpenClaw expects large context windows and strong defenses against prompt injection. Small or aggressively quantized models truncate context and leak safety — raising prompt-injection risk significantly.

Hardware requirements: Aim for ≥2 maxed-out Mac Studios or an equivalent GPU rig (~$30k+). A single 24 GB GPU works only for lighter prompts with higher latency. Use the largest / full-size model variant you can run; aggressively quantized or "small" checkpoints raise prompt-injection risk.

See the official local models guide for supported setups and configuration.

Intelligence & speed: Local models are generally not as capable or as fast as the top-tier cloud models (GPT-5.2, Claude Opus). You may notice lower-quality reasoning and slower response times.

Privacy advantage: The big upside is complete privacy — no data ever leaves your device. If you handle sensitive information and cannot risk sending it to a third-party API, a local LLM is the way to go.

Privacy & Security

Is my data safe?
Yes, because the "brain" of the agent lives on your device in your home or office. We configure it without "Inbound Traffic," meaning no one can easily hack into it from the outside. However, the data the agent processes is sent to the AI provider (like OpenAI or Anthropic) for "thinking," unless you use a Local LLM.
Can I use this on my company laptop?
We strongly advise against this. Most corporate policies block the necessary software. It is much safer to run the agent on a separate personal device that monitors public information (like news and stock releases) and sends the results to you.
What is the difference between Remote (API) and Local LLMs?
Remote (OpenAI/Gemini/Anthropic): Highest intelligence, requiring a subscription or pay-per-use API key. Data is sent to their servers for processing.

Local LLM (Ollama/Llama): Runs entirely on your hardware. No data ever leaves your house, but it requires a powerful machine and is generally less capable than the top-tier paid models.

Integration & Usage

Which messaging apps can I use?
OpenClaw works seamlessly with Discord, Telegram, and WhatsApp. You can send instructions via text or voice note, and the agent will report back its progress directly in your chat.
How does the 'Heartbeat' feature work?
This allows the agent to take initiative. For example, you can set a "Heartbeat" every 30 minutes to check your emails for urgent keywords or monitor specific news sites for company updates, even while you aren't actively chatting with it.
Do I need my own AI subscriptions?
Yes, you will need to provide your own AI access, but there are strict rules depending on the provider you choose:

OpenAI: If you have a ChatGPT Plus or Pro web subscription, you can currently link that to power your OpenClaw agent.

Anthropic (Claude) & Google (Gemini): You cannot use your standard consumer web subscriptions (like Claude Pro/Max or Gemini Advanced) with OpenClaw. Both companies explicitly forbid using their web subscriptions for third-party automated agents, and doing so will result in an immediate account ban. To use Claude or Gemini, you must set up a pay-as-you-go API key account instead.
Where can I get API keys and how much do they cost?
All three major AI providers offer pay-as-you-go API access. You only pay for what your agent uses:

OpenAI: View OpenAI API pricing — Most users spend a few dollars per month for moderate agent usage.

Anthropic (Claude): View Claude API pricing — API keys are created via the Anthropic Console.

Google (Gemini): View Gemini API pricing — Includes a generous free tier for getting started.
